Courage

Give me courage, Lord, today to face what comes along.

Give me the faith and love I need to fill each day with song...

Give me courage, Lord, today to follow in your way;

Help me to do what I should do,

And hear me when I pray...

Give me courage Lord today And strength to do your will;

Lead me and guide me, precious Lord,

For I need your presence still...

Come, take away my pain

You are my Master , Lord, and King and ever shall remain.

It isn't every day you hear of a Kerry family making a big-screen debut, much less on German TV.

But this dream became a reality for Eamonn and Aisling Stack alongside their three children - Aoibhínn, Liam and Siún - and grandad William when they became the focus of the latest Dairygold ad. The opportunity arose during the summer when the Kilmorna, Listowel family were forwarded an ad on Facebook from multiple people, nudging them to go for it.

After much deliberation and laughter over the idea, the Stack family decided to go for the opportunity to become the faces of Dairygold in Germany and put themselves forward.

Before long, they were notified by the production team that they were in the final short-list of three, and after an examination of their farm, they were deemed the perfect fit for the ad.

The ad was filmed in the middle of July on the family's own farm in Knockanure.

The production team visited the family prior to filming day and walked the family through the various steps that would take place.

Filming took place from 6am to 6pm on the chosen day.

"It was a very surreal experience seeing how the ad was made. Knowing that we would be in this ad on someone else's TV was unbelievable," Eamonn said.

The filming crew had very specific instructions as to how things should look.

Criteria included that the grass had to be a certain type and length, to ensure it was extremely luscious looking on screen.

The family were also instructed to swap out a gate, replacing it with an old-fashioned style gate for the perfect traditional Irish farmhouse look -poetic licence that helped capture North Kerry's agri traditions.

Another shot consisted of milk being poured from an old-style jug in one of the family's barns.

The ad features a beautiful shot showcasing all three generations of the Stack family standing together at the gate: Eamonn; his father, Willie; and eldest daughter Aoibhínn, aged nine.

This ad highlights the truth behind Dairygold's new motto 'Because it is so'.

The motto comes from the fact that if you ask a farmer from Listowel why Ireland is so good, his reply will consist of something along those lines!

The short clip is successful in capturing the magic of Ireland and what makes it so special.

Reflecting on their experience filming the ad, Eamonn said:

"I wouldn't change it for the world. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I am so glad we did it."

Eamonn's father, William, is also extremely grateful for the opportunity, citing it was "the best experience of his life."

For more information and to watch the ad go to www.dairygoldireland.de.

Kerryman

From George Langan family tree.

Can anyone tell me if I am related to the Quill/Woods family, as I had also been told the story of the name change. My Quills came from Lyrecrompane, Co. Kerry and settled in Ballybunion c.1930’s.

I have had my DNA tested with Ancestry, but so far I had not had any queries relating to it from either Quill or Woods.

I have read your great family tree info, and noted that there was a Timothy Quill in Ballybunion earlier than my side, I wonder were they the same family.

My DNA has linked me to McGrath and McCoy, so I think there is something there.

Anyone with any info , please email me at anghenderson56@yahoo.ie

I am in north Kerry. Angela Quill ( old records do not have an ‘e’ on my surname).

Bobisxtws

information on Bolton's Cross came from Jonah McKenna Moss. In a follow up letter he said:

"The Justice family was a large wealthy Anglo-Irish protestant family), with two branches which resided in Kerry, and Mallow area in Cork. All the various family trees agree on the point that the daughter of John Bolton and Mary Justice, Julia Bolton married one of the Mallow Justices (my ancestor), uniting the two families again. The Mallow Justices married into the Allens, Ashetons, Barret, and Holmes families as well. One branch converted to Catholicism and moved to Boston and Melbourne Australia.

Essentially, I am trying to figure out why there is a place in Listowel called Bolton's Crossroads, and which Boltons it was named for, since there is a high likelihood that they might have been connected to mine. "

he Tithe Applotment Book (1830) for Listowel parish lists “Mr Bolton’s Demesne” and “Mr Bolton” as holder of the same land, along with another plot listed to 2 other men (Mulvihill and Horan).

As to who these Boltons were, it is not easy to say! The “Kerry Evening Post” (22 May 1833) gives a marriage of Robert Ellis Bolton, youngest son of John Bolton, Prospect Lodge, Listowel, to Christiana, 3rd daughter of Mr Haycroft, Doneraile. This couple seems to have moved to Doneraile, as subsequent records show a Robert Ellis Bolton L.A.H.D. (I don’t know what that set of initials stands for!) buried there on 23 April 1890, aged 77 years & 10 months. Christiana was buried at Doneraile on 9 July 1886 (aged 71).

OBITUARY (Unknown Stoughton newspaper)

Word of the sudden death of James Drury, aged 72 years, reached Stoughton on Thursday, Nov. 2nd and was a surprise to everyone. He was in town only a short time ago and appeared to be in good health, and indeed was up to the night of his illness.

The night previous to his death he was suddenly taken ill, medical aid was immediately summoned and upon arrive, Dr. Robertson pronounced it paralytic stroke. Despite all that was done, he gradually sank and passed peacefully away the next day.

The late Mr. Drury came to Stoughton to live some seven years ago from Rapid City and located south of town. He was well and favorably known by many in this district as well as in town.

He leaves to mourn his loss, four boys, the eldest Edmond, of Winnipeg, and Charles, Patrick and Joseph of this place.

The funeral left his late residence on Saturday last at 9:30 and proceeded to the Catholic Church, Forget, where services were held by Father Monrad, after which followed by a large number of relatives and friends, the cortege proceeded to the Forget cemetery for interment. The sons have the sincere sympathy of their many friends in their bereavement.

NEWSPAPER CLIPPING FROM JOURNAL OF JAMES DRURY:

Letter to a Newspaper (1871 is handwritten on top):

EVICTIONS AT TARBERT

TO THE EDITOR OF THE TRALEE CHRONICLE

Tarbert, May 21

My Dear Sir – The long impending sword has been finally drawn by Mr. Elliott, against the persons referred to in my last letter. The following are the names of the house holders evicted.

Patrick Sylvey Connor, Tom Ned Connor, Mrs. Drury, James Enright, and Michael Burns. In All 36 individuals.

Will Mr. Elliott, or his Solicitor, in the case let the public know why so many have been so ruthlessly evicted? I shall await their reply. I will let the public look forward for it.

In the meantime, I can safely, I think, state that the eviction was not for rent or arrears of rent, nor for any unwillingness on their part to assume, if demanded, a higher rent.

A TARBERT MAN

Have been trying to trace some family history...can only get back to 1901 census for the name Cunningham. After searching several other sites I decided to check my gr-great grand mothers maiden name. She was Bridget Kennelly and arrived in the US with her son Denis Cunningham and his wife Katie O'Sullivan. They left Direen, Athea CO. Limerick in 1906. She was married to Cornelius Cunningham but left him in Ireland for America. The ships manifest indicates that she was 60 at the time of arrival but so does the 1901 census. I have noticed a lot of names that seem to fit others that are tied to the Cuninghams. Any help would be appreciated. ThanksSteve Cunningham This is Peggy. Just received your email to contact you since you just had a chat with a Collins person. First, Thank you for remembering me. (researching my dad's side: Flavin (Flahavan), Costello, Hanrahan, Stack, and Collins being the maiden name of as far back as I have gotten on my birth name of Flavin/Flahavan, Mary Collins marrying John Flahavan both born about 1800. I so wish I could find someone right in your area to do some paid searching for me, especially at the Church in Ballybunion and Ballylongford. Let me know if you ever find me someone, since I don't forsee us getting back to Kerry. Peggy in California They were the Jackeen Con's, they went to school with me and my siblings. My brother Dick or Paddy Fitz or Kathleen Stack opposite the Church would fill you in. Please send me copy of the article on Joe Daly, who came to Moyvane South from Glin as an orphan, became one of the family, corresponding with my father for years from USA and gaining a reputation as a tenor. I am researching my wife'sfamily, which has its origins in Ireland. Her father was Mortimer Daley, born in Broken Hill, Australia in 1904. He was called after hisgrandfather, Murty Daley, or Daly, who lived in either County Clare orCounty Limerick. Murty's son, Martin, migrated to Australia in the lateninetheenth century (where he married an Irish girl, Catherine Guare). All I know about Murty Dal()y is that he was possibly married to a BridgetFitzpatrick. Is there a possible relationship between your Murty Daly andthe one I am looking for? If not, are there any on-line records I coulduse to further my search. One of his ancestors wasThomas O'Connor from Shronebeirne in Duagh, one of whose sons, Patrick (born1834 in Shronebeirne), settled in Kilbaha. It's probably a long-shot thatthere's any connection between Kevin's O'Connors and mine seeing thatO'Connor is such a common name and I think that my O'Connors may have movedto Kilbaha before Kevin's Patrick arrived, but you'd never know... You told me when we were last in touch that you thought my O'Connors hadmoved from the Athea side of the river to settle in Kilbaha. I've just beenlooking at a map of Athea and surroundings and I see that Athea seems to beactually on the river so I can't figure out which side of the river they mayhave come from. Do you think they may have come from south of the river,i.e., south of Kilbaha, or somewhere close to Athea? Any information at allyou might have would be much appreciated. Is she an ancestor of yours? Do you know anything about that side of the family? Thank you,-- As far as I know, Johanna Kennelly of Newtownsandes (b. 1843?) married Patrick Moore in Ireland. Their Children were Catherine, Honorah Mary (my great-grandmother), Mary, Michael, and William. Patrick Moore seems to have died in Ireland, whereupon the rest of the family emigrated to the U.S. Here I have conflicting information - it may have been 1872 or 1881, but the former is more likely. The family came through Philadelphia and went to Pittsburgh, PA, later moving to New York, which is where my family's from. Jer,Are you still at this address?I stopped by to see you a few years ago.
