ST PATRICK’S day mass in Knockanure was well attended, the choir with Ann Cunningham on the organ added greatly to the occasion, the Readings were in Irish. Despite the misty day a reasonable crowd attended the Listowel Parade which was supported by many voluntary groups. People who have cushy jobs because they had that bit of extra book Irish are very thin on the ground when they are wanted. Extract from Deer’s Cry God’s host to secure me-against the snares of devils, against temptation of vices, against inclinations of nature, against everyone who shall wish me ill, afar and near, alone in a crowd.
Extracts from St Patrick’s writings are in last weeks Irish Catholic.

Isaiah 6:8 ; It is through working together, praying together and planning together that we discover our respective roles as Christians. Today's parish needs the participation and the involvement of all whereas in the past, much parish activity revolved around what the priest did. THOUGHT: Our souls may lose their peace and even disturb other people's, if we are always criticizing trivial actions -- which often are not real defects at all, but we construe them wrongly through our ignorance of their motives says Teresa of Avila . The gospel is for the salvation of the world, and we are sometimes in danger of locking ourselves inside the rescue-shop and plundering the stock of blessings for the sole purpose of spiritual self-gratification, while millions stream empty- handed past the closed doors into eternal darkness, hearing the joyful sounds and seeing the advertisements, but never being given a chance to test the goods says Graham Kendrick; Read whatever chapter of scripture you will, and be ever so delighted with it - yet it will leave you as poor, as empty and unchanged as it found you unless it has turned you wholly and solely to the Spirit of God, and brought you into full union with and dependence upon him, William Law.

Diocesan Pastoral Planning; Glory be to God whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine. Ephesians 3:20
The diocese has identified six main areas as key to our planning over the next five years: Nourishing Faith; Empowering Participation; Transforming Society; Reforming Structures; Reviewing Initiatives; Celebrating Diversity and Respecting Difference. These will influence the policies of our Diocese over the next five years, as well as the key appointments of priests and full-time personnel. Parish Pastoral Councils are invited to respond to these areas of priority by drawing up plans for their parishes for the coming years. We are all invited to engage in this exciting work of pastoral renewal.

THOUGHT: Humility is perfect quietness of heart. It is for me to have no trouble; never to be fretted or vexed or irritated or sore or disappointed. It is to expect nothing, to wonder at nothing that is done to me, to feel nothing done against me. It is to be at rest when nobody praises me and when I am blamed or despised. It is to have a blessed home in the Lord where I can go in and shut the door and kneel to my Father in secret and be at peace as in a deep sea of calmness when all around is trouble, Andrew Murray; Spread out your petitions before God, and then say, "Thy will, not mine, be done." The sweetest lesson I have learned in God's school is to let the Lord choose for me,  Dwight L Moody; An old proverb, “Worrying is like a rocking chair; it gives you something to do, but it doesn’t get you anywhere.”

Mend a fractured friendship, mail an overdue letter, repair a broken heart, lay aside a grievance, and act on a noble impulse. As we all know, The night cometh,  Lanny Henninger;  How many times do we miss God's blessings because they are not packaged as we expected?  Anonymous; If God be our God, He will give us peace in trouble. When there is a storm without, He will make peace within. The world can create trouble in peace, but God can create peace in trouble, Thomas Watson.
