Padre Pio – Feast Day: 23 September
Saint Pio of Pietrelcina (Padre Pio) was born in Pietrelcina, Italy on 25 May 1887. His
family name (surname) was Forgione and he was christened Francesco after St
Francis of Assisi. His parents were very poor farming people but had a strong faith
and were very religious. His father had to go to the USA twice in search of work to
provide for his family. At the age of fifteen Francesco joined the Capuchin Friars,
taking the name Pio. In spite of his poor health (which caused him to have to do a
lot of his studying at home) he was ordained a priest in August 1910. After
ordination he was sent from one monastery to another before he arrived in San
Giovanni Rotondo in the south-east of Italy in 1916 . He would spend the remaining
52 years of his life there. He meditated a lot on the Passion and Death of Jesus with
the result that on 20 September 1918 he received the Stigmata or the Five Wounds
of Jesus in his body. He would have these until his death on 23 September 1968 aged
81. Padre Pio had a special love for people who were sick or suffering. In fact he used
much of the money he was sent by his devotees to build a private hospital in San
Giovanni Rotondo called “Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza” (“Home for the Relief of the
Suffering”), which is one of the best hospitals in Italy. It was opened in 1956. He
continues to help the sick and the suffering in our world by interceding for them in
Heaven. Many miracles have been attributed to him, including the couple of miracles
which were necessary for his beatification and canonization.
Pope St John Paul II (Karol Wojtyla) had tremendous regard for him and met him
first in 1947. Later on in 1962, as a bishop from Poland attending the Second Vatican
Council, he got word that a friend of his back in Poland, a medical doctor called
Wanda Poltawska, was gravely ill, so he wrote to Padre Pio asking him to pray for
her. Happily Wanda recovered. Later when he became Pope he had Padre Pio’s
cause for sainthood advanced and eventually beatified him on 2nd May 1999 and
canonized him on 16 June 2002.
Padre Pio had a great love for Our Lord present in the Blessed Sacrament and for the
Mass. His Mass at times lasted a couple of hours such was his devotion and fervour
in celebrating it! He also had a great love for Our Lady and prayed many rosaries
each day. He also spent many hours in the Confessional each day, celebrating the
Sacrament of Reconciliation with the penitents who came to him to confess their sins
or to seek spiritual advice. Hence he is seen as a great Saint of Mercy, so much so
that Pope Francis had his body brought from San Giovanni Rotondo to Rome in
February 2016 for a few weeks during the special Jubilee Year of Mercy. Padre Pio
was also known to have the gift of bilocation. The scent of roses is also associated
with him, being seen as an indicator or sign of his presence and/or his intervention in
a situation and his intercession for people who have asked for his help

Fr. John Ricardo says in the Rescue Project ‘We’re so used to being loved for what
we’ve done but to be loved for who we are is a completely different experience’.
Beginning this Tuesday evening September 26th at 8pm live on our Glenflesk
Facebook page we’re presenting a six night program called the ‘Rescue Project’.
It’s a program designed to allow people to discover the power of the Gospel and to
come to know the Kerygma the most basic but transformative story of the Good
News. As a Church we need to go back to basics. We need to rediscover the true
faith which reveals Gods unconditional love for each one of us. Our country has
come a long way from poverty to becoming the one of the wealthiest countries in
the world but sadly we didn’t bring our Christian faith with us. There’s no reason
why we can’t enjoy the wonderful blessings of our time but also never forgetting
the God of love and worship Him. Mother Teresa once said 'The greatest disease
in the West today is not TB or leprosy; it is being unwanted, unloved, and uncared
for. We can cure physical diseases with medicine, but the only cure for loneliness,
despair, and hopelessness is love. There are many in the world who are dying for a
piece of bread but there are many more dying for a little love. The poverty in the
West is a different kind of poverty - it is not only a
poverty of loneliness but also of spirituality. There's a
hunger for love, as there is a hunger for God.’ So join us

The Church celebrates the optional memorial of St. Augustine Zhao Rong, priest, and his 119 companions, all martyrs of China, on July 9. The majority are Chinese; some are Western missionary martyrs. As July 9 is a Sunday in 2023, countries that mark the feast transfer it to Monday, July 10.
If you look at a medieval map of the world, its orientation may seem unusual to you. That’s because many medieval maps put the center of the world in Jerusalem. That axis established what the cartographer thought important: the Holy City was the place of Jesus’s Passion, death and Resurrection. Similarly, China’s perspective is clear from the country’s name in Chinese: 中国 – “Zhongguo” — literally, the “Middle Country” or “Middle Kingdom.” Just as Rome thought people living beyond the Rhine were barbarians, so did China think of outsiders, especially those to its west.
China is a proud country whose history reaches back to perhaps 1500 B.C., i.e., before Moses. It’s a perspective that has made it suspicious of external influences, which is, in part, why Catholicism has had a conflicted history in China.
The Chinese Martyrs begin in 1648, when Dominican Father Francisco Fernández de Capillas was imprisoned, tortured and killed in Fujian, a province on the Chinese mainland opposite Taiwan. This was approximately 40 years after the death of Jesuit Father Matteo Ricci, who sought to open up China by immersing himself in Chinese culture.
Augustine Zhao Rong was a Chinese soldier attached to a detachment of troops assigned to bring French missionary bishop John Dufresse to Beijing to be executed. His bearing up under suffering impressed the soldier, who asked him about his faith and, eventually, received baptism at his hands, taking the name Augustine. Although Dufresse was killed, the impression he made on Augustine led to the latter eventually seeking ordination. He would be the first Chinese-born diocesan priest and, in 1815, its next martyr.
Official People’s Republic of China history speaks of the 19th century as China’s “century of humiliation” because of the extent to which Western Powers (and Japan) carved up Chinese territory. There were various rebellions during this time, the most famous of which is probably the Boxer Rebellion at the beginning of the 20th century. It led to American troops liberating the besieged diplomatic enclave of Beijing.
Many of these nationalist uprisings associated Christianity with the hated West. Chinese Catholics were especially singled out as collaborators against their people. A total of 87 Chinese, ranging in age from 9 to 79, bore witness to their faith with their blood. Like in ancient Rome, many could have been freed if they had just renounced their faith. They didn’t. Many died by strangulation, some by beheading.
The last members of the Chinese Martyrs, canonized by Pope St. John Paul II in 2000, died in 1930. They were two Salesians of St. John Bosco, a bishop and a priest.

DEATH of Aileen Kennelly nee McCarthy of Staughton’s Row, Kennelly’s Pharmacy, Castle Street & Castle Countess, Tralee, died on 18th March 2023, wife of the late Emmet, mother of Liam, Mary, Padraig & Emmet and sister of Con, Rena, Billy and the late Fr. Martin McCarthy O.P.
Sadly missed by her family, her grandchildren John, Anna, Orla, Emer, Libby, Fionn & Aoife, great grandchildren Abbie, Logan & Martin, nephews, nieces, son-in-law Richard, daughters-in-law Khamla & Julie.
Funeral arriving to St. John’s Church, Tralee, on Wednesday morning at 9.30 am where the Requiem Mass for Aileen will be celebrated at 10 am (streamed on www.stjohns.ie ). Interment afterwards in Rath Cemetery, Tralee.

Dear Parishioner,
Three weeks ago, the article featured in ‘Dear Parishioner’
had the title, As the Master Desires; Madre Moretta – Patron Saint of
Human Trafficking Survivors. The life story of Sudanese saint, Josephine
Margaret Bakhita, was described in the article. It was a coincidence that
Pope Francis was visiting South Sudan, part of the original country of
Sudan, that weekend. The main article this weekend is again about the
topic of Human Trafficking and it gives us an insight into the cruelty and
suffering experienced by women who have been taken from own country
and are condemned to a very difficult life, if they do not succeed in
escaping from the person who ‘bought’ them or in the home where they
were put. Intercom had a third article with thoughts from Pope Francis,
with the title, ‘Human Trafficking – An open wound’. The topic would be
makes us aware of one of the many examples in life, where individuals or
groups take advantage of their fellow human beings and expose them to
great suffering.
It was good to see a newspaper heading during
the week, reminding us of something that began 50 years ago, which is still
very much part of Irish life 50 years later. The headline of the article was
Trócaire Lent box marks 50th anniversary. Beside the article there was a
photograph of a smiling woman, holding a Trócaire box in her left hand,
while her right hand was stretched out in a gesture that could indicate
‘Thank you’ or ‘Please give something’. Josephine Umumarashavu, aged
12, and native of the African country of Rwanda, was featured on the
Trócaire box in 2004. Her father and other siblings had been killed in the
1994, Rwandan genocide. Josephine is a mother of two children and works
as Finance Officer for Trócaire in her own country. “I still have the 2004
Trócaire box in my home and I look at it now and again to remind myself of
how far I have come. I get very emotional, when I look at it still, because I
know I would not have finished my schooling, or have the job I have today,
or be able to look after my family, without the generosity of the Irish
people. When I look at myself on the Trócaire box, I remember the
challenges we faced as a family after the Rwandan genocide. My mother
was really struggling to survive alone, with three young children, living off a
small piece of land and constantly facing the threat of hunger.” (Fr. Denis

Living Memories: Some sampled and memorable quotes from survivors.
Story One: The sponsor who bought me was hell; there was nothing good
from that house from the moment I went there. He was threatening to kill
me and I was not given food in the house. The employer was beating me
and calling me names. One day while we were both in the kitchen, she was
cutting onion and I was cleaning the table, she tried calling me to assist her
but I was very busy and I never heard her calling. The madam got very
angry and took a knife and wanted to stab me to death. In self-defence, I
struggled and held her hand so that she can drop the knife down.
Afterwards, I ran downstairs and locked myself in my room. I tried calling
the office but they never listened to me therefore I decided to run away
but I was arrested by the police and detained. After 4 months I was
deported back to Kenya.
Story Two: My work experience in Saudi Arabia was terrible. I was taken
advantage of by the whole family. Even for the ten-year child, I was a
monkey. During my work period, I was made to work like a donkey with
no time to rest, I was not given food. I was made to sleep outside their
house exposed to the heat and I was not allowed to shower.
Furthermore, I was raped by the employer and his two sons. The family
consisted of eight children and one of them was disabled. I was required
to nurse him and frequently change his diapers.
Story Three: The horrifying thing that I will never forget during my working
experience is that I was molested and assaulted. I was chained and raped
by my employer. I was very scared after the threats that he gave me and I
had no choice but to escape from the house and found help from the
police and the Kenyan Embassy. While I was stranded on the streets, I saw
a taxi coming and I stopped it. I requested the driver to take me to the
Kenyan Embassy. Fortunately, there was a Kenyan lady inside the taxi and
she asked me in Kiswahili ‘Una shida gani dadangu’? (Translated as ‘what
is the problem my sister’?). I was like, ‘Thank God’, for the first time I
have found
a sister from my own country. This kind lady told me that she had also
escaped from her employer and she was now living at her own house. I
told her my story and afterwards she agreed to accommodate me. The
next day, she accompanied me to the Embassy but I was not assisted.
There were no flights operating due to the Covid-19 pandemic. After some
time, I missed my monthly menstrual period so I decided to buy the
pregnancy test kit and after testing myself, I got the shock of my life to
realise I was pregnant. I informed the lady who was accommodating me
who insisted I should look for a job, which I did. Eventually, I moved out
and rented my own apartment but my aim was to go back home (Kenya).
My parents had to sell a portion of our land so as to get money to buy me a
flight ticket.
The practice: Engaging Survivors of Human Trafficking
Survivors play a vital role in combatting human trafficking. The survivor
voice is vital in establishing effective anti-trafficking strategies that address
prevention, protection and prosecution. In an effort to eradicate human
trafficking, CHTEA focuses on the rescue, rehabilitation, return/repatriation
and reintegration of victims of human trafficking. CHTEA has, since 2020,
consolidated a network pool of over 300 survivors of human trafficking.
The network creates a platform to share experiences, listen to each
other, provide awareness channels to the would-be victims, explore
potential job opportunities and act as advocacy vehicles. The network is
co-ordinated by volunteers who are also survivors. 56+
On 1st October 2022, CHTEA organised a meeting with a group of survivors
(mainly from Middle East countries) from the network. The goal of the
meeting was to have a recollection day to discuss their current situations
since their return. Those in attendance returned between 2020 and 2022.
The also provided a platform for the survivors to discuss the challenges
experienced by the victims of trafficking and to give recommendations
that could inform future policy. During the one-day recollection, the
survivors were given an opportunity to provide a personalised reflection of
the their individual rights, while working in the middle-East countries.
From their narrations, which ranged from physical abuse, sexual abuse,
threats to the individual, false promises, denial of freedom of movement,
denied medical treatment, denied food, withholding of wages and identity
documents, the torture, that victims of human trafficking go through, was
clearly depicted.
Points to Ponder (Intercom February 2023)
Prayer, Fasting and Abstinence are three tools we use as we prepare to
celebrate the great mystery of Easter, the Passion, Death and Resurrection
of Our Lord. Fasting and Abstinence have nothing to do with hating the
world and its material goods. Neither are they ways of punishing
ourselves. Fasting is one way in which we deepen our awareness of God.
By denying ourselves food, or a luxury (the sweets, the cigarettes, the
alcohol) what else do we do except say ’I do not depend on these things’.
It enables us to step back from the usual habits and distractions and give
particular attention to God. An outward restraint can be a sign and a
symbol of an inner attention, and a help towards it. This is a meaning of
the great symbol of ashes given on Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent.
This is also the Prayer that lies at the heart of Lent. Reminding ourselves
to give time to God, so that God may speak to us in the silence of our
hearts.
Our fasting and abstinence, if we are serious about them, have a particular
significance in a world dominated by a culture of consumption. Today we
are encouraged to think of ourselves as ‘consumers’ or ‘customers’, as if
the material things of creation had no other meaning than to be used by
human beings. Fasting is a form of restraint in which we stand back to
contemplate things as they are in themselves, as they are in relationship
to God the creator, and not just as they exist for us. Real enjoyment of
the world comes not from possessing it or consuming it, but from a
detached enjoyment of its goodness.

some spectacular act in public. He rejects the temptation because he
chooses commitment to his mission and to dependence on his Father over
any immediate gratification. Have you found that sometimes there is more

the goals, aims, values that inspire you in this way?
2. One way of looking at this gospel is to say that Jesus went into the desert
to face his demons. We all have demons we need to face - compulsions,

On May 1, Crossroads held their “Walking Home” fundraiser, to raise money for a new roof at their first house, Harvard House. The walk involved six women walking 15.8 miles from the nearest prison, the California Institution for Women (CIW) in Chino, to Crossroad’s Harvard House in Claremont. SISTERS: Telling Our Story – Philomena Morris SSL

The Sisters of St Louis’ General Chapter 2015 invited the sisters to tell and re-tell the St Louis story “in order to own, celebrate and pass it on to future generations." The story of the Institute is the ‘why’ of the Institute, and telling it is an art of translating our values into action, of constructing our identity, making choices and inspiring action. Telling our story carries a transformative power inherent in the enduring values and lessons about life and mission which are passed on from one generation to another. Our individual and communal stories can be tools for making us whole; they gather up parts of us and put them together in a way that gives our lives greater meaning.
We are delighted to share with you extracts from the 57th interview in the "Telling Our Story" series, in which Philomena Morris SSL was interviewed by Margaret Healy SSL on February 23, 2022. In her interview, Philomena talks about her missionary work in Ghana and her pastoral work.
Philomena Morris SSL was born in 1938 in County Galway and is the eldest of four children. She attended St Louis School in Balla, County Mayo. She entered the Sisters of St Louis in February 1959 when she was 20 years old. She made her first vows in August 1961, and final vows in August 1964. In 1961, she taught in Aylesbury High School in England for a short time. Following this she went to Rathmines, where she taught in the Junior school. In 1962, she attended University College Dublin and graduated in History and English in 1965. In 1965, she was transferred to Great Yarmouth and for two years, she taught in St Louis High School. In September 1967, she moved to Ghana and taught A level subjects in St Louis Secondary School, Kumasi. She was chaplain to the Young Christian Students team of English speaking West Africa. From 1979 to 1980 she studied at the Irish School of Ecumenics and returned to Ghana. In 1983, she returned to England and began working with the Movement for a Better World. In 1985, she attended a training session with the International group in Rome. From then she worked on the International Leadership Team. This entailed working on programmes for renewal and travelling to many countries in different continents. She served as regional superior of the English Region From 1995 to 2001. After a sabbatical in Navan, Ireland, she began working in a busy North London parish. From 2010 to 2013 she was team leader in the English mission. In 2013, she was invited to serve on the Safeguarding Commission of the East Anglian diocese. She has been a Trustee for a number of years. She currently works part time in Our Lady of Muswell Parish in North London.

There are about 155 Sisters of St Louis in the Irish Region. The Irish Region encompasses Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
Most sisters in the Region have reached official retirement age. However, apart from sisters who are ill or very frail, most sisters continue to actively serve others and make the world a better place. We have, however, largely moved from active corporate ministry to one of collaborative outreach and prayerful solidarity with local communities and the wider world. Many sisters are involved in internal ministry and care of each other. Some are also involved in pastoral and prayer ministries, retreat work, chaplaincy, spirituality and religious formation. Still other sisters continue to be active in education in both community and formal settings. This includes second chance education opportunities, teaching English as a second language, acculturation programmes and homework clubs for migrants, development education with particular reference to climate change and the integrity of creation, Governance, strategic development and trusteeship roles.
At least 100 sisters who are currently members of the Irish Region have lived and been in ministry in Belgium, Brazil, California, England, France, Ghana, Liberia, or Nigeria.

Late Rosemount Priest was "way ahead of his time"
There was deep sadness in Rosemount this week when news broke of the sad passing of one of the most legendary characters the village ever produced, the much-loved Fr Tom Hickey.
A fluent Irish speaker who celebrated the 70th anniversary of his ordination in June of last year, Fr Tom passed away at University Hospital, Kerry on Monday, in his 97th year.
A man who was renowned for his quick wit and great love of life, the late Fr Tom was appointed as Parish Priest of Ballyferriter in 1989 having spent the entirety of his priesthood in the Kerry Diocese, where he served in ten different parishes prior to his appointment to his beloved Ballyferriter.
Marie Burke (née Keenan) a native of Rosemount, and a good friend of the Hickey family, described Fr Tom this week as a man who was “way ahead of his time and a great character.”
She recalled how he made an annual trip to the United States every October right up to four years ago, when he was 94 years old, to visit his brother, Benjy, in New Jersey. “In the two weeks he would be over there he would take the bus into New York on his own seven or eight times to attend a play or a show on Broadway,” she said.
When Fr Tom Hickey was ordained in Maynooth in 1950 he was one of a class of 82 priests, so he went to London to study drama before returning to the Kerry Diocese to begin his ministry.
He was a founder member of Siamsa Tire in Tralee and had a lifelong devotion to drama which brought him into contact with both young and old in every parish where he served.
A superb raconteur, he could captivate a room with his great wit and sense of fun and Marie Burke recalled how his party piece was the witty ballad “I Belong to Glasgow” which he performed with great aplomb at many a get-together in his native Rosemount.
“Fr Tom and his sister, Maura O’Connor, who is 94 and lives in Limerick, used to return to Rosemount for every important occasion we had here up to the time Covid hit, so everyone in the village has many fond memories of all the great nights we had in their company” says Marie.
Only last year, Fr Tom was filmed practicing a Tai Chi routine in the kitchen of his home in Ballyferriter, and said at the time that regular exercise was one of the factors that had contributed to his long and active life.
He knew every town and village in Kerry, where he spent all of his adult life having received his secondary school education with the Christian Brothers in Dingle before he entered the seminary in Killarney. Irish was his first language and he never missed the opportunity to speak in his native tongue among his parishioners on the Dingle Peninsula.
One of the saddest aspects of Fr Tom’s passing is that the people of Rosemount and of his beloved Kerry will be unable to give him “the send-off he so richly deserves” according to Marie Burke, due to the Covid restrictions in place for the celebration of funerals.
“He was just an amazing man in every way, and we will never see his likes again,” said Marie Burke.
Fr Tom, whose late father, Ben Hickey, served as Principal of Rosemount National School from 1920 to 1959, will be laid to rest tomorrow (Thursday, April 15) in the grounds of St. Vincent’s Church, Ballyferriter, Kerry after a private family Funeral Mass in the Church at 2pm.

Heartbroken to hear of the passing of such a wonderful man. Someone like Fr. Hickey should live forever. Through the medium of Educational Drama his goal was to help individuals fulfill their potential. In keeping with his vocation he had a particular devotion to Religious Drama. His presentations were Stunning and Uplifting. Through this medium he reached out to people of other Faiths and none. For many years his tutorials and classes were appreciated and enjoyed by the Radius community in Great Britain.
Whether he was directing a solo silent performance a school Panto or one of his many epic productions he dedicated all of his expertise to it. The results were awesome and magic. Often the ticket sales helped with the renovation of the Parish Church, local charities and Emigrant services received a financial boost thanks to the involvement of whole communities.

The Songs of Moyvane

I remember as a very small boy, Tomeen the boss coming into our kitchen singing “Foley’s Jackass”. I laughed at him; he was a funny man. His songs meant nothing to me then.
Years later when I was grown up (say about ten years old!) I heard someone mention a song called “The Rose of Newtownsandes“. I always wanted to hear that song. Call it curiosity or whatever but I wanted to hear it, and in 1975 I finally tracked it down. Donie Lyons of Dromerisk (the flute player) told me of an extraordinary man, Con Greaney of Rooska who sang the song.
Having come of age on a thin diet of Planxty-like folk songs I was not prepared for what I heard. I sat on a sugán chair in Greaney’s kitchen with the microphone in my hand. Greaney exploded into song. I got such a fright that I sat bolt upright in my chair, my heart having missed a beat!
That started me on the collection of trad songs. Since then I have met many men (why must it always be men!), some of them old some middle-aged but every one of them I loved. They had an infinite quality of lovableness and innocence. Their hearts were In their songs; the great Con Greaney, my uncles Billy and Jack Cunningham, Jack McElligott of Gurtdromagowna, the inimitable Jack Carroll, Jimmy Herbert and Mickeen Fitzgerald of sweet Athea to mention but a few.
The songs of Moyvane parish (Newtownsandes as it was formerly called for love of landlords) may be broadly divided into “three categories:
(a)Sporting songs; (b) Political songs and (c) Love songs.
Moyvane has a great and varied sporting history, she has given of her young men who have graced football fields, wearing the proud Kerry jersey in three continents, poets sang their praises as they did of the great Dainty Man, a half blind hound who took Ireland’s best to the cleaners that day in Clonmel when he brought the Derby home to Moyvane.
Moyvane has strong nationalist feelings as is evidenced by the selection of political songs printed here. Remember it was in our parish that the men of “The Valley of Knockanure” were sent to their doom at an early bloom, to spotlight just one tragedy.
And then we have The Rose of Newtownsandes, the best traditional song I’ve heard in years. The air, the mystery; it’s all there. Who was she, where did she come from, what was she, why did the poet write the song? All unanswered questions because everyone has a different answer.
If there’s anyone out there who knows any song, bit of song, poem or verse about the Moyvane/Knockanure area, I would be eternally grateful if you would give them to me.

The Con Greaney programme broadcast on West Limerick 102 FM on Saint Patrick’s Day has received a lot of positive comments, from at home and overseas. A nice selection of Con’s favourite songs was included during the 90 minutes, which was produced and presented by Shirley O’Regan. Gabriel Fitzmaurice, who helped to unearth Con’s talents, and present them to a wider audience, recalled their times together and recited a poem he composed in tribute. Shirley recited Tony Malone’s tribute song and Michael Allen’s poetry tribute. Ger Greaney, his grandson, gave the family perspective of Con and his lifestyle and Tom Aherne traced his journey through life. “My granduncle Micheál Pierce of Killarney Road, Castleisland passed away on Friday, in his 91st year on earth. He lived a very long and happy life.
Micheál was the first of the cohort of the boys’ secondary school in Castleisland to pass the Leaving Certificate in the late 1940s.
Move to Dublin
He then moved to Dublin and was the first member of my family to earn a degree, a Bachelor of Commerce at University College Dublin, where I finished my studies today.
Micheál went on to work at The Irish Press, taught for a period in England and devoted his final years and great majority of his life to working with his dear friend Sr. Consilio and Cuan Mhuire in Athy, Co. Kildare.
As another Sliabh Luachra native, Micheál’s heart always remained here and with thoughts of Castleisland and Ballyheigue.
May God be good to him.

A beautiful send off for Fr.Tom – Thank you to the community of Trafalgar. A special thanks to Yvonne, Elio and the Muscato family for your years of great friendship with Fr.Tom. Fr.Tom traveled home to Ireland many times and on so many occassions we know had a warm welcome for visitors to Trafalgar. We were lucky to have the opportunity to visit Fr. Tom in Australia, Aeda in 2015 and more of us again in 2019. A vibrant character, kind, generous and great company – We have many happy memories of celebrations and visits.

What a wonderful mass and tribute to my uncle FrTom, a very special thanks to all who contributed to organising this special service. Fr Tom was very blessed to have so many wonderful people in his life , a special big thank you to the Muscato family , especially Yvonne and Elio, who took such loving care of him and were life long friends. We have such great memories of Fr Tom, when we visited him in Trafalgar in 1991, 2013 and 2019. We especially loved when he came home to Ireland , he was like a celebrity, we all wanted him in our company. One of his favourite sayings was Moladh go Deo an Dia ( Irish phrase which means Praise God forever. ) God bless all those great and wonderful people in Trafalgar that were part of Fr Tom's life . His trips to Kerry were exceptionally pleasant where we had many a session of songs dance and story telling and to us here in Camp where he was dearly loved by my husband Pádraig, the O Morain family and the people of Our community .We visited Fr Tom in Australia as did our family where he was a most generous host , kind caring and loving .He was especially good to our aunt Sr Rufina in Subiaco , whom we visited with him in 2010 May Fr Tom rest in eternal peace We shall always Romberg this wonderful man and genuinely good human being He was a legend and I feel privileged to call him my uncle

It was great sadness to hear the passing of my Uncle Fr Tom. I have fantastic memories as a young boy of Fr Tom returning to Lissereen for his summer holidays. Everyday was an adventure when he was at home as we travelled the highways and byways of Kerry and beyond visiting cousins relations and acquaintances . Everywhere we visited we were welcomed with open arms , we sang we danced played cards went to football and hurling matches . Fr Tom had a great sense of fun, a larger than life character. I would like think he is sitting down tonight with his siblings who have passed on, playing a game of 31 and rounding it all off with his party piece The Homes of Donegal.

Very sorry to hear of Father Tom's passing. Even though he was far away we always kept in touch with him and he with us. We have great memories of him and he will certainly be remembered in our prayers. When he visited Ireland he always called to our home complete with squeezebox and Bobhran where a great nights entertainment followed.

Dear Fr Tom, from the day you came to meet me at our farm in August 1981 that day l will never forget l was a first time mum and l was not in a happy place ,may l set the scene, l had met Fr Tom when in the depths of winter l had babies nappies flapping on the line and all was well until the line broke and my beautiful white nappies were no longer white, Fr Tom appeared from nowhere to offer me a blessing, blessing our little family myself and Paul and the blessed washing line, thank you for visiting when you where most needed, enjoying your videos of your trips to Ireland, and you falling asleep after a hearty meal, with us not knowing who the people were in the video, but the beautiful Irish scenery which you were very proud of your Irish heritage. The day you came for care was the day l could repay you for all you did in our community and for my family, from giving our first born a mass of the angels service as young parents who were having to face this tragedy you helped us to no end. l am a proud aged care nurse and will miss you, thank you for my blessing on Friday morning and thank you form the Morello's

The death has occurred of William (Liam) O'Sullivan Lislaughtin, Ballylongford, Co. Kerry on Monday March 8th 2021 peacefully in his 99th year after a very short illness at University Hospital Kerry; Predeceased by his infant son Teddy, siblings Jimmy, Marjorie, Elizabeth and Micheál, and daughter in law Mary. Sadly missed by his loving wife Mary and children Peter, Criona, Finbarr, James, Mary, Betty (Hankard), Michael, Patrick and Edna, grandchildren Kim, Daniel, Elizabeth, John, Sarah, David, Shane, Julie, Debbie, Molly, Liam, Michael, Kate and Rebecca, daughters in law, Peggy and Ciara, son in law Jim, brother in law Teddy Kennelly and sister in law Lily Barwood, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, neighbours, friends and carers.
